Performing Arts

Picture
Performing arts were popular in Japan during the Heian period. Roots of later Japanese drama were traced back to these performing arts. People gathered to watch performances by musicians, jugglers and acrobats. Later these performances developed into a more serious form of drama called Noh, created in the 1300’s. Noh plays combine music, speaking and dance. They often tell about great heroes and or figures from Japan's past.
